What is a Oral pathology?

It is a specialty of dentistry concerned with mouth diseases, and related structures such as teeth, bone and salivary glands. Many conditions can be diagnosed, or at least suspected, from gross examination, but severe cases must undergo tissue analysis and biopsies.

Sometimes the oral pathologist, is called oral and maxillofacial pathology referring in the diagnosis of serious diseases of the mouth (oral cavity or stoma), jaws (maxillae or gnath) and related structures sucg as salivary glands, temporomandibular joint (TMJ), facial muscles and perioral skin (the skin around the mouth).

The mouth is an important organ on the body with many different functions. It also encounters to a variety of medical and dental disorders.

The specialty of oral and maxillofacial pathology is concerned with diagnosis and study of the causes and effects of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. This is considered to be a specialty of dentistry and Pathology.
